Home Back Cooperation between libraries and lifelong learning organizations
for successful dissemination of Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) projects

Glossary

Academics: teachers, lecturers, trainers, researchers, scientists

Civil servants and officials (e.g., labor officers)

Decisionmakers: ministries, local government, local authorities (policy makers), business sphere

Dissemination: a planned process of providing information on the quality, relevance and effectiveness of the results of programmes and initiatives to key actors. It occurs as and when the results of programmes and initiatives become available. This activity happens at both project and programme levels and involves the active participation of intermediary 'relay' bodies.

Libraries: Organized collections of information resources (books, periodicals, newspapers, manuscripts, films, maps, prints, documents, microform, CDs, cassettes, videotapes, DVDs, Blu-ray Discs, e-books, audiobooks, databases, and other formats) kept and organized for people to read or borrow. They provide physical or digital access to material, and may be a physical building or room, or a virtual space, or both.

Types of libraries vary in audience, and scope and depth of collections.

Library professionals: all library workers (IT staff, librarians, PR, library professional associations)

Lifelong learning organizations/sector representatives: organizations – lifelong learning project partners and coordinators with experience in project implementation, dissemination and exploitation; lifelong learning centres and education institutions. (Lifelong learning organizations represent different types of projects thematically and from different sub-programmes: Leonardo da Vinci, Grundtvig, KA1, KA2, and others.)

Exploitation/utilization: consists of 'mainstreaming' and 'multiplication'.

'Mainstreaming' is the planned process of transferring the successful results of programmes and initiatives to appropriate decisionmakers in regulated local, regional, national, or European systems.

'Multiplication' is the planned process of convincing individual end users to adopt and/or apply the results of programmes and initiatives. Again, this can happen at both project and programme level.
